Palma.— The Night on the Born and Palma's Christmas Weekend Out will be launching the promotion in Calle Jaume III, Calle Unió, along the Borne and the principal connecting streets to give a welcome to the Christmas season, said Tourism Councillor Alvaro Gijon.

He explained that tour operators are going to arrange for special tourist packages to take advantage of the cultural, commercial and gastronomic pre-Christmas promotion.

The director of the project, Javier Escobar, said that events will kick off on 19th November with the switching on of the Christmas lights by Palma's Mayor Mateo Isern. He will be accompanied on the occasion by Majorcan athletes who were medal winners in the Olympic Games in London earlier this year.

Furthermore, Gijon highlighted the fact that the shops will be switching on their Christmas lights at the same time as City Hall.
Avenida Jaime III is to be made into a pedestrian only area from 8pm to midnight. A red carpet will be rolled out, and specially designed seasonal posters advertising the promotion will be put up at strategic points on shop windows with retailers doing business to midnight over the period.

Art galleries and museums are going to join the promotion, confirmed Escobar, adding that there will be Father Christmases walking anad cycling around the streets and choirs singing carols on the Casal Solleric patio.
