Just as a date for a court hearing is about to be fixed for an incident which took place in July 2010 in the suburb of Pere Garau in Palma - in which the local Muslim community tried to prevent police officers entering a mosque to arrest a delinquent - a national court hearing chaired by Judge Baltasar Garzón has revealed that one of the suspects involved in the conflict in Palma had links to Al Qaeda.

According to the register of the hearing held in Madrid, Juan P. Abdula from Majorca admitted to attending meetings in Palma which focused on Jihad (Holy War) in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Chechnia and Palestine, and to knowledge of money being collected in Spain to send to Al Qaeda contacts in the United Kingdom.
