By Brett Gibbons TORY MP Mark Field is enjoying the peace of the Majorcan countryside before returning to Westminster for what political pundits forecast will be one of the most intense and confrontational sessions ever seen in the Mother of Parliaments.

Respected commentators are already asking if the influence and political nous of new Cabinet colleague Lord Mandelson will convince Prime Minister Gordon Brown to call a snap General Election to capitalise on his improved showing in the opinion polls.

And Mark feels the odds are in favour of an early summer poll to enable the Prime Minister to capitalise on the surge of public confidence in his handling of the economic crisis. “There is nothing else in the talk amongst MPs. All the chat is about the date of the next General Election. I would say the odds are 60-40 in favour of a summer poll,” he forecast.
