STAFF REPORTER A SECTION of the MA-10 which runs between Pollensa and Andratx was closed to traffic yesterday because of a significant landslide - no incidents or injuries were reported.

The subsidence occurred at the 29 kilometre mark on the stretch between Lluc and Soller, about 100 metres from the sa Calobra turn-off. Technicians from the Council of Majorca's Highway department said that it would take between four and five months to repair the road
The subsidence happened on Wednesday afternoon when some ninety metres of roadway disappeared, either carried away with the force of the landslide or buried beneath a deluge of earth and rocks. As such, the stretch between Lluc and Soller has remained completely out of bounds to traffic. To either go to or come out of sa Calobra, there is now no alternative but to go through Soller. After the alarm had been raised about the landslide, Council of Majorca technicians were joined by assistants from Escorca Town Council, Civil Defence volunteers and Guardia Civil officers in an inspection of the site. Signs indicating the road being cut were erected immediately.
