PALMA
THE 39-year-old man arrested on Saturday evening in connection with the shooting of a 57-year-old taxi driver in the centre of Palma was yesterday ordered to he held on remand in the psychiatric wing of Son Dureta hospital.

The suspect is accused of shooting the taxi driver in the shoulder with a 9mm revolver and appeared before a Palma court yesterday morning facing charges of a public health offence, attempted homicide, illegal possession of a weapon and threatening a police officer. The suspect has a criminal record for drug trafficking and has apparently got a medical history of schizophrenia.

When he was arrested he was apparently under the effects of drugs and the Local Police found a kilo of cocaine and a cake of hashish in his van.
The Palma taxi association is going to launch its own lawsuit against the suspect.
