THE old analogue TV will disappear from Majorca for good this coming Monday, heralding a new age of digital television.
Regional Minister for Innovation, Pilar Costa, said yesterday that: “I believe we can say with certainty that we will be celebrating an event as important as when colour television was first introduced.” Costa acknowledged however that with the final switch over, there were going to be some inevitable “teething problems.” The Balearic government has set up new transmission centres and adapted already-existing ones so that reception will be provided to 99 percent of the population. Those who can't get the terrestrial “TDT” signal can apply for it free by satellite.

Minister for the President's Office, Albert Moragues, who was answering questions from the media with Pilar Costa yesterday said that Catalan and Balearic authorities are in negotiations to enable the Islands to receive an extended television network.
