Palma.—On Monday, the first of 55 suspects will begin to take the stand in the Palma High Court as the biggest anti-drugs case in the history of the Balearics opens.

In total, 555 people stand accused of various drug related offenses with sentences totaling 695 years hanging over them.
Many of those on the bench are either leaders or members of the most powerful gangs in the Son Banya shanty town and stand accused of arms dealing, drug trafficking, handling stolen goods, and threatening behaviour.

The case which starts on Monday is expected to continue well into March.
The arrests are the result of Operation Kabul mounted by the serious crime squad.
