BALEARIC Health (Ib-Salut) hospitals have attended an average of 1'100 patients a day over the holiday period, said a spokesman yesterday.
Ib-Salut confirmed that the level of demand is normal for the winter months when between 1'000 and 1'200 cases are registered every day. On 6th January, a source said, hospitals around the Islands responded to 1'104 urgent medical cases.

Health centres elsewhere have not reported any excess demand outside normal limits over the holiday although on 6th January, there had apparently been difficulties at the Emergency department of s'Escorxador health centre when one of the doctors was taken ill unexpectedly.

Patients had to wait in line to be seen by other medical staff at the centre.
Meanwhile the Balearic Health Service is introducing equipment to help those with neurological or orthopaedic disorders to walk normally. The aparatus will be located at Son Llatzer hospital, east of Palma.
