By Humphrey Carter THE freezing temperatures could not stop hundreds of people heading up to Lluc to play in the snow yesterday while the emergency services had to continue working in the harsh conditions to clean up and repair the damaged caused by the gale force winds which battered the Balearics on Friday.

A number of roads, in particular most of the access roads up to Lluc and the road between Esporles and Puipunyent remained closed yesterday for either ice or flooding while sea crossings were disrupted by the heavy seas with a number of ferry services cancelled as the gale force winds peaking at 100 kilometres per hour continued to lash parts of the Balearics as the region remained on level one weather alert which will not be lifted until tonight.

The 112 emergency centre reported early yesterday afternoon that since 11am on Thursday, it had received 5'214 calls and that 568 incidents had been responded to.
