PALMA
WITH the Sant Antoni fiestas approaching, Arta Council has launched a crackdown on under age drinking.
During last year's Sant Antoni fiesta there were apparently a number of alcohol related incidents involving young people and over the past year, the local council, has been working with schools and local shops to prevent a repeat performance.

The Council has been distributing posters to shops which clearly states it is illegal to sell alcohol to under age teenagers. The local council is urging everybody to enjoy the fiestas but be sensible.

The Arta Councillor for Youth Affairs, Manolo Galan, said that the problem of under age drinking is not only exclusive to the Sant Antoni fiestas but a social phenomenon the local authority intends tackle over the course of this year. “Sant Antoni is for the town to have fun not a massive binge drinking session,” a council source said.
It appears that a number of other local councils are following Arta's lead by launching alcohol awareness campaigns in the run up to the Sant Antoni fiestas.
