PALMA
THE route of the carnival in Palma may be changed this year due to technical difficulties, according to the Council.
The Council's Commission for Fiestas is looking at the possibility of introducing changes in the traditional route of the “Sa Rua” carnival, which takes place on February 3.

Deputy Mayor, Eberhard Grosske, who is responsible for the city's cultural events, said he was due to meet the organisers of the event today, with a view to finalising a route.

Yesterday morning Grosske presented the prizes to the winners of this year's “Sa Rua” and “Sa Rueta” poster competition, which is run by the council.
The winners were Pau Josep Genestra and Miquel Angel Munar respectively.
The panel of judges was headed by the Mayor of Palma, Aina Calvo.
Pau Josep Genestra received a prize of 1'202 euros for his graphic work based on a photograph which was taken at the “Gay Parade” on Ibiza in July 2007.

The poster is of a man wearing sunglasses in which palm trees are reflected. Grosske described this work as having “strength, impact and originality”.
Six-year-old Miquel Angel Munar won the “Sa Rueta” competition. He also drew a palm tree at the centre of his work, which he then decorated with one of the masks from the carnival.
