PALMA
PALMA'S Son Sant Joan airport operates the eighth and ninth busiest routes within the European Union, new research has revealed.
The findings of Eurostat, the European Union's statistics group, showed that Majorca's link with Barcelona was used by a massive 1'785'000 passengers in 2007, a rise of 2.6 percent on the previous 12 months.

This was closely followed by flights between Palma and Madrid's Barajas airport, which carried 1'758'000 passengers, the same as the previous year.
The busiest inter-European route was between Madrid and Barcelona, which was used by 4'627'000 passengers, an increase of 4.2 percent.
Overall Palma was 14th in the list of popular airports, with 23'167'000 passengers placing it ahead of capital cities like Athens and Lisbon and busier than international airports like Manchester and Berlin.
