A female Costa de la Calma service station attendant was undergoing further treatment in a Palma hospital after being attacked during a failed attempted robbery on Thursday night.

It is understood that a young man, apparently Romanian, entered the service station just before 8.30pm and asked the woman if she could call for a taxi. Just as the employee turned to make the call, she was hit about the head with a rock and suffered serious injuries.

Her screams were heard by her colleague in the back office and he immediately rushed to the victim's aid. He managed to pry the attacker off his colleague and tried to detain him as a fight broke out between the two.

However, on seeing that there was now little chance of being able to rob the service station, the attacker, said to be in his early 30s, managed to escape and reach a getaway car which was waiting nearby in calle Ramon de Moncada. Police were still searching for the two suspects last night.
