STAFF REPORTER PEOPLE born in the Balearic Islands continue to lose their dominance in the regional population with a report issued yesterday revealing that 45.96 percent of those living in the region were born outside it.

Britons were one of the lagest national groups with 22'055 citizens, compared to 19'803 the previous year.
A National Institute of Statistics census as at 1st January 2008, shows that of the 1'072'844 inhabitants of the Balearic Islands, only 579'868 were born here. The strength of the “born elsewhere” population has risen slightly in respect of the previous year when it represented 44.44 percent of the total. The foreign population of the Islands also continues to grow.
