GOVERNMENT BACKTRACKS OVER PALMA RING ROADS

DOUBT was cast yesterday over future plans for Palma's second and third ring road programmes by regional Territory Minister, Gabriel Vicens who said that he “was not in agreement with either of them.” Vicens said that the ring road schemes which were included in the Council of Majorca's road building programme should be subjected to a transport feasibility study before any further moves are made.

Vicens, who met yesterday morning with Margalida Ramis, spokesman for the Balearic ecological watchdog - GOB - said that “we can't draw up a road building programme without first considering the railway and inter-urban coach services.”
