LLUCMAJOR
TWO people were injured, one of them seriously yesterday, after an horrific accident on the Cap Blanc road in the municipality of Llucmajor, Emergency services reported.

A bizarre twist was given to the event when it was revealed that the driver who was allegedly responsible for the accident after ploughing into the back of another vehicle driven by a 37-year-old woman, had left a suicide note at his home.

Local Police and Guardia Civil sources confirmed that the crash happened around 3pm by the crossroads at the Las Palmeras residential complex.
According to a number of witnesses, just seconds before the crash, the “suicide driver” had veered over into the oncoming lane and several cars had had to swerve violently to avoid him, steering into the ditches to avoid a head-on collision. But it was not this that caused the crash.

After slewing back to the right-hand side of the road, it was then that the driver ploughed into the vehicle immediately in front of him.
Once the alarm was raised, the Traffic department of the Guardia Civil, Local Police from Llucmajor, an Emergency Service rapid response vehicle and several ambulances lost no time in getting to the scene.

The first medical assessment made at the scene of the accident was that the suicide driver had received a strong blow to the head and was unconscious. His condition also indicated to paramedics that he had taken some form of medication prior to the accident which had hastened his losing consciousness.

The Guardia Civil Traffic department worked promptly to keep traffic moving, thus preventing delays whilst Council of Majorca technicians worked to clean the road surface.

Apparently the Local Police, with family and friends of the suicide driver had been searching for the car about half an hour before the accident was reported.

Witnesses said: “Many cars were forced to swerve out of the way. If there had been a head-on collision, there would have been several people killed.”
