Ciutadella.—An investor has approached Ciutadella town council on Minorca about the possibility of building a golf course in the municipality, Planning Councillor Ramon Sampol said yesterday.

Sampol, who preferred not to reveal the identity of the investor said that at this stage, the investor has asked what the legal prerequisites are that need to be fulfilled before such a project could go ahead.

The investor's approach comes at an opportune moment. In recent months, Territory councillors around the municipalities of Minorca have been meeting to try and put in place cross party agreement for making infrastructure plans such as this one more feasible than they are under present legislation.

Council of Minorca sources said that talks are now at an advanced stage and that it is likely that new accords will be reached within the next few weeks.

Sampol said that both the island council and local authority in Ciutadella, both Partido Popular run, are in favour of the golf course project.
