By Humphrey Carter THE occupants of three vehicles involved in a serious accident in Palma yesterday were all fortunate to have escaped with their lives. The multiple accident happened just after 2.30pm at the Cala Blau roundabout on the Manacor road which was temporarily closed causing traffic chaos while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

According to the emergency services, the chain of events began when a Ford Fiesta came off the roundabout into calle Manacor at speed and collided with a BMW coming out of calle Sureda.

The occupants of the BMW escaped unscathed but due to the impact of the collision, the female driver of the Fiesta lost control of the vehicle and spun down the road for some 50 metres, finally coming to rest colliding with a Volvo.

The driver of the Volvo was saved by the airbag.
He suffered a fractured nose.
The female driver of the Fiesta came off the worst.
She was trapped in the mangled wreck of her vehicle and had to be cut free by fire fighters while the road was reduced to single lane traffic. However, all she suffered was a suspected fractured rib and was taken to a Palma clinic for further checks.
