PALMA
THE demise of Scottish main tour opetrator and airline FlyGlobespan last year left a huge gap in the Scottish travel market and cut thousands of Scotttish holidaymakers off from Majorca and some of their other most popular destinations in Spain.

However, it was announced yesterday that Barrhead Travel has plugged the gap in the market left by the demise of FlyGlobespan by launching its own-brand package holiday programme for summer 2010 which will serve popular Majorca and parts of mainland Spain.

The company, one of the UK's leading independent travel agents, has chartered aircraft from British Airways which will operate weekly throughout the summer from Glasgow Airport.

The programme will operate weekly between late May and mid September, with convenient weekend departure times.
Sharon Munro, Chief Executive of Barrhead Travel, said: “As one of the UK's best-recognised travel brands, and one of its largest travel groups, the logical next step for Barrhead Travel was to develop its own package holiday programme. “Our years of experience in the travel business have given us the knowledge needed to produce and package our own holidays. We know what our customers are looking for and we know that we've got a quality product that will appeal to them, at extremely competitive prices.” The holiday flights will also carry Barrhead Travel's passengers to cruise departures for Mediterranean itineraries.
Sharon continued: “By their very nature, cruise ships are tied to set departure times, and it's a high priority for us to ensure that all our cruise clients have boarded the ship in plenty of time and with the minimum of fuss. By working with such a reliable and well-known airline, we can be confident that this will happen, and that our customers will be well taken care of. “GREAT NEWS” “All of the accommodation we are using in our Barrhead Travel package holidays is of a good 4 star standard, and we're offering all-inclusive holidays on our programme, so it's easy for our customers to budget - there's no requirement for spending money. “Our prices are exceptional - with our lower overheads and costs, and with our ability to cut out the conventional tour operator, we can pass our savings onto our customers.” Sharon added: “And most importantly, as every holiday we sell is fully financially protected, they have the peace of mind of knowing that their hard-earned money is safe.” Barrhead Travel's package holiday programme had been developed over a period of several months.
Sharon adds: “We've planned this, painstakingly, for almost a year. Scotland has the demand for more direct, peak-season holiday packages, and with the recent sad demise of Flyglobespan and several other tour operators and airlines, the number of holidays available in 2010 will certainly be much lower than in previous years. Our summer programme will help to plug that gap.”
