JOAN Flaquer, spokesman for the Balearic Government and Minister for Tourism, said yesterday that the Spanish tourist market is of “strategic high value” for the Balearics and he expected that during the next few months bookings would match or exceed those in previous years. The Minister made these comments after being asked his impressions of the tourist fair Fitur which takes place in Madrid from January 25 to 29.
He said that it was a “meeting point” for companies in the tourist business and served to create an image of the Balearics among them which, on this occasion will have a sporting theme. Present at the event, to promote the islands, will be the tennis player Rafel Nadal, the footballer Raul Gonzalez and the swimmer David Meca.
The Minister also said that some airlines offer cheap flights to Majorca for those who want to visit clubs and said that these types of promotions are welcome if it means that the airlines will continue to operate in the Balearic market.
