PALMA
BALEARIC union bosses yesterday called on the regional Minster for Innovation, Interior and Justice, Pilar Costa, to create a special Emergency Services Coordination Commission to specifically handle a major emergency.

The Public Service Federation of the UGT, General Workers' Union, maintains that there remains a very gray area in how the various emergency and security services are due to respond in the event of a serious incident
UGT Secretary General, Antoni Teba, said during a meeting with Costa yesterday morning that the commission could work along the lines of the Local Police's Coordination Commission and clearly stipulates how everyone should respond to an emergency, who will be in control and what the chain of command will be.

Teba also said that any new commission should include the main unions as well as the Civil Protection department, the various fire services, Palma City Council, the Island Councils, the Interior Ministry on behalf of the Balearic government and the Local and National police forces.
