Newsdesk THIS year's harvest of almonds is going to suffer because of the unseasonably warm weather. This is because some varieties, which have already started to flower thanks to the warm weather we're having at the moment, will not cross-pollinate with varieties that have yet to flower.

This will mean a reduced harvest in comparison with previous years.
According to Antoni Martorell Nicolau, the head of the Balearics' agricultural research and development institute, it is still too early to measure how much reduced the harvest will be at this stage.

The problem of early flowering is caused by the unseasonably warm days that are sometimes encountered in the region at this time in January.
The current weather, warm days and cold nights, is set to continue until next Tuesday at least.
