Palma.—Tens of thousands of people are going to gradually descend on Palma this afternoon from across the island in order to try and grab a good spot to watch tonight's Aiguafoc firework display which will be visible from all around the Bay of Palma.

Over the past two days, pyrotechnic professionals have been carefully placing the 57'000 fireworks from the launch pad on the commercial quay and building two special floating platform from which fireworks will also be launched out in the bay itself.

The fireworks display has always been a massive attraction and fitting close to the Saint Sebastian festivities but the former Socialist government scrapped it and replaced with a night of fire running which did not prove as popular, although much more expensive.

This year, the public have got what they want at nearly a third of the price at 93'000 euros.
The display will begin at 8pm and last a full half an hour and special care has been taken to make sure that the fireworks are a safe distance from the Cathedral to protect the monument from any damage.
