OVER 1'500 Porto Cristo residents marched through the port on Sunday in protest against plans to demolish the “del riuet” bridge.
It was the third local demonstration in the space of just two weeks and now, Porto Cristo intends to bring its crusade to save the bridge to Palma.
Yesterday, black ribbons were being tied to balconies in the port as a sign of the on going opposition to plans to remove the bridge while protest organisers were busy planning their assault on the capital as one last ditch effort to save the bridge.

Jaume Brunet, who is leading the campaign to save the bridge, said that the local, elected authorities “should be listening to the public, the electorate.” The first protest in Palma will be held outside the courthouse where the judge who ruled in favour of the demolition order works and, should that fail, the protesters intend to mount regular demonstrations in key locations around the capital until the bridge is saved.
