The resignation of two key figures within the Balearic Ministry for tourism will come as a major blow for Barcelo, who is the fourth Balearic Minister for Tourism in as many years.
The announcement that Mar Guerrero is stepping down will also be seen as a major setback by the tour operators and the Majorcan tourist industry as a whole. Since taking up the post last year she has established a close working relationship with the industry and this was underlined by the high level talks she held last week at the Fitur tourism fair in Madrid with officials from all the major tour operators.
The Balearic Ministry for tourism is dogged by severe budget problems making the role of the promotion department even more difficult at a time when the Balearics is facing serious competition from holiday destinations on the mainland and in eastern Europe.
Mar Guererro is the wife of the British Consul, Paul Abrey.
