Palma.—Last year, Balearic ports set a new record for cruise passengers by handling a total of 1.6 million, according to the APB, Balearic Port Authority yesterday.

The region's main cruise ports handled a total of 745 cruise ships with Palma obviously being the busiest with 1.429.502 passengers, six percent more than in 2010, and 534 cruise ships.

Ibiza was the second busiest with regards to the number of cruise ships, handling a total of 123, 22 percent more than in 2010, but passenger figures were slightly down by two percent to 129'369.

However, Mahon in Minorca, suffered a decline in cruise ships and passengers.
Only 79 cruise ships, 15 percent less, put into the port last year with 54'957 passengers on board.
