SOME 40'000 people in risk categories in the Balearics have been vaccinated against the swine flu virus, the regional Health Minister, Vicenç Thomas reported yesterday. The figure represents just a quarter of those resident in the Islands recommended to have the jab.

Thomas also confirmed that with weeks having passed without news of new cases, there is now little evidence of swine flu in the Islands but the alert remains in place.

“We haven't given a final date for the end of the vaccination programme and in fact, we are going to leave it open-ended because there still may be some unknown factors about the H1N1 virus,” the Minister said.
