Palma.—Carrefour Property España has been granted permission by Palma City Council to go ahead with its plans to build the largest shopping centre in Majorca next to its current hyper market in Coll d'en Rabassa.

Carrefour's real estate department is currently finalising the project with Palma City Council but work on the shopping centre is expected to begin during the first quarter of this year.

160 million euros
The shopping centre will cover an area of 172'500 square metres, involve a private sector investment of 160 million euros and create 1'500 jobs.
The centre is also expected to attract an estimated 12 million clients per year.
The shopping complex which is going to be called S'Estada, will feature outlets for global brands, many of which are currently unavailable in Majorca.
Open air mall
The idea behind the project is to create a varied commercial centre which will cater for the diverse population with its differing needs in Majorca.
The shopping centre will be built alongside a central open air mall in order to make the most of the island's climate and the commercial centre will be built on two floors and include an underground car park.

Apart from the jobs the centre will create once open, in the construction phase, over 4'000 people will be directly or indirectly involved.
