EMERGENCY crews were called out yesterday afternoon to deal with blazing rubbish containers which had apparently been set alight by groups of youths.
Fire and police units raced to the incident in Son Ferrer, near Santa Ponsa, and spent a lengthy amount of time dampening down and ensuring the smouldering containers were safe.

Gangs of youngsters were suspected of starting the container fires deliberately and police officers were investigating the incident.
The flames caused hundreds of euros worth of damage to the containers, completely gutting one bin and badly damaging another. Calvia Council will now be forced to replace the containers and supply extra bins to householders in the Son Ferrer district, which is a residential area between Santa Ponsa and Magalluf.
