The heavy rain which fell in the Soller area yesterday, 85 litres per square metre, caused considerable flooding and the fire brigade were called on more than 20 occasions. They had to pump water out of flooded basements and shops in the town and the port. Flooding was also reported in Pollensa.

The heaviest rain, however, fell at Lluc in the mountains, where it was recorded at 265 litres per square metre, and 225 litres in Fornalutx.

The bad weather also caused landslides in the Soller, Valldemossa and Deya areas.

The high winds at sea, which caused waves of up to four and five metres in the north east of the islands, led to delays and cancellations of ferries and cargo ships in all the ports of the Balearics, although the ports remained open. The strongest winds were registered at Alfabia, at 114 kph, and Capdepera, at 97kph. In the port of Palma, the wind was blowing at 57kph.
