Staff reporter THE 20-year-old driver arrested after a total of 25 police cars chased him from Sa Pobla to Palma in the early hours of Sunday morning, was yesterday ordered to be held on remand in Palma prison.

The dangerous car chase came to an end after police closed off Joan Miro and the suspect, known as “Malenco” crashed his 4x4 Suzuki into a tree and taxi.

Yesterday, the youngster apparently admitted that he had been driving under the influence of a cocktail of heroin and cocaine and had been “spooked” by a routine Guardia Civil checkpoint outside Sa Pobla because he was driving a stolen vehicle.

At 3.15am, as he raced into Palma, over 20 police units were involved in the chase and the 20-year-old, who has a long criminal history which includes 19 previous arrests, was eventually trapped by a police road block.

Yesterday he was charged with damaging public and private property, resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer, car theft and disobeying the law.
