PALMA
THE driver of a large refrigerated articulated lorry suffered a shock yesterday when the cooling engine of the trailer suddenly caught fire along the road to Arta.

The lorry rolled off the ferry from Barcelona early yesterday morning carrying various tons of fresh fish from the mainland.
As the driver headed towards Arta from Sant Llorenc, the refrigeration motor apparently burst in to flames just before 9am.
The driver was able to leap out of his cab uninjured but the flames quickly spread to the cabin and were starting to spread through the trailer full of fish and sea food from Galicia when the fire fighters reached the scene.

The Guardia Civil and Local Police closed the stretch of road for nearly four hours while fire fighters tackled the flaming lorry and traffic was diverted through Son Severa and Sant Llorenc until the situation was under control and the flames extinguished.

The burnt out cabin was eventually towed away while the trailer was moved off the road.
How much of the fresh produce was damaged remains to be seen and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
The driver was said to have been a bit shaken up last night.
