THE Balearic security forces, in particular the National Police and the Guardia Civil organised crime squad, are this weekend celebrating one of their most successful week's ever in the war on drugs in the region.

Last week, the Guardia Civil and the National Police made three major drug interventions. The week started with the final phase of Operation Lagos which resulted in the seizure of nearly 10 kilos of cocaine and the arrest of 14 West Africans (two were released without charge.) Then 4'000 kilos of hashish was uncovered in Alcudia and eight people were arrested. Finally, 24 kilos of cocaine was seized in the third police operation of the week in Ibiza and a further four detained and three arrested for smuggling at Palma airport.
