MORE than 20 people from the world of science, politics and films, including Michael Douglas, Elle MacPherson and Spanish singer Miguel Bosé, are backing moves to globally stop the fishing of blue fin tuna, and have it added to the list of species under threat of extinction.

Non-governmental organisations supporting the campaign say that as it currently holds the EU presidency and is licensed to claim a large slice of the blue tuna fishing market,, Spain is now uniquely placed to follow up a project started in the Balearic Islands to create a protected breeding ground.
