NEARLY 683'000 passengers used Palma airport last month, a 2.2 percent downturn on figures for the same month in 2010, the Spanish National Airports Authority(AENA) confirmed yesterday.

In contrast to numbers at Palma airport last month, more than 12 million passengers travelled in and out of Spanish airports across the country, an increase of 6 percent in comparison with January 2010, said AENA.

According to their research, the Airports Authority said that Palma airport had the fifth highest passenger volume last month and that 60 percent of these travellers were Spanish nationals.

Nationwide, 147'000 aircraft operations were registered in January, a year-on-year growth figure of 2.7 percent.
