A PANEL of 30 experts from Spain and other European countries will be meeting in Palma today to discuss issues of environmental control in towns and cities.

Balearic president will host the conference, entitled “Sustainability in Cities” which is to be held at the Parc Bit Technology and Recycling centre. He will be accompanied by other key figures from the regional government and the Council of Majorca. The agenda will focus on challenges facing modern cities - how urban development can proceed given territory restrictions, infrastructre to be used by a growing population, water quality and waste disposal. Invitees will be coming from major European centres, including Belfast, San Sebastian, Naples, London, Munich and Madrid. With many urban communities facing the same difficulties, the conference is looking to develop joint solutions that can be applied internationally.
