For the sixth consecutive year, Majorca is going to be hosting an international beach rugby competition with sides coming from all over Europe.
Palma.—Organised by former Leicester Tigers and England international Steve Redfern, the Majorca Beach Rugby Tournament is going to be taking place in Magalluf on the beach from May 4 to 5 in front of Crusoe's.

At the moment there are 16 teams registered to compete, ten of which are ladies teams including one called Mamas which is an invitation side made up of mothers from the United Kingdom and other parts of Northern Europe.

The Moody Cows with their cow print rugby shirts will also be taking part this year.
There will be one semiprofessional invitation side competing but Steve said yesterday that the tournament is more of a social event and that the majority of the teams are from amateur clubs sides which simply want to come down to Majorca for the Bank Holiday weekend, play some rugby, relax and have some fun. “It's a really great event. It's grown so fast over the years and the support from Calvia Council and Angela Guerrero, Crusoe's, Mambo's and Palma Beach has been excellent. “And, it's a real family event. We've got over 2'000 people coming down for the weekend. Apart from the players, they bring their friends, family and supporters and we want all those rugby fans on the island to come down and enjoy the spectacular or volunteer to help in the organisation. There will be a kids' tournament on the first day before the competition kicks off -so there's going to be a wonderful atmosphere,” Steve added.

This year, Steve has organised the event in association with Suzanne Lyons from Adramar Viajes and she has been promoting the event at the World Travel Market in London and the Fitur trade fair in Madrid. “The response has been great, we're already being contacted by teams which are interested in playing in next year's tournament,” she said yesterday.
And now there's talk of creating a European beach rugby league style tournament on the same lines as the rugby sevens competition with Majorca being a key location.

Teams have until the middle of April to register to play. For further information or to sponsor visit majorcabeachrugby.com
