PALMA
REGIONAL government Transport minister, Gabriel Vicens, said yesterday that local authorities are going to join forces with their counterparts in Tenerife to compare notes on the experiences that the Canary Islands has had in setting up a tram service, so that feedback can help the development of a similar system in Palma.

Vicens was speaking after a meeting he held with Tenerife's Economy advisor, Carlos Enrique Alonso Rodriguez to promote contact between the Canary and the Balearic Islands. Vicens said that as island communities, both regions can benefit from comparing their shared experiences - finding out what problems they have in common and the best way of solving them. The minister highlighted the fact that the tram service established on Tenerife, which in its design is very similar to the one proposed for Palma and adjoining municipalities, had been very successful.
