PALMA
THE Balearic political delegation which has travelled to Brussels this week in a bid to secure more and just funding for the islands appears to have enjoyed some, albeit limited, success.

Against the back drop of Balearic Day celebrations to promote the region's culture and traditions in the Belgian capital, which included an EU-threatened “fire-run”, Balearic president Francesc Antich, his team of ministers and some 150 local mayors, spent yesterday locked in talks with commissioners, including the Commissioner for Regional Policy, Danuta Hübner, in an attempt to get a fairer financial deal and a greater level of compensation to help off set the extra costs the Balearics have to meet for being an island region.
