Four arrests for importing fake mobiles

FOUR men have been arrested by the Guardia Civil in Palma for allegedly importing 433 fake prestige brand mobile telephones from China.
The Nokia and Blackberry mobiles in their original state would be valued at around 30'000 euros but manufactured in China, they have a market value of just 4'000 euros.

Guardia Civil sources said yesterday that officers had begun investigating the case in January this year when customs officials became suspicious over paperwork related to the import of the goods from China. The Guardia Civil had kept a watch on the premises in Palma to which the imported goods had been addressed and finally arrested four people on charges of crimes against industrial property.

Nokia, meanwhile, have taken legal action against the top business personnel involved in the import scam.
