SALARY difference between men and women in the Balearics is on average over 25 percent, the Minister for Employment and Training, Pere Aguilo reported yesterday.

On International Day for Salary Equality, Aguilo confirmed that women in the Islands earn an average gross salary of 16'627 euros, 4'220 less than men.
The figures, provided by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) revealed that the Balearics is the region of the country where the average salaries of women are the fifth highest in the country. However, they still fall below the national average of 16'948.

Following a meeting with Isabel Martinez, Central Government's Equality Ministry secretary yesterday in Madrid, Aguilo said that looking at the country as a whole, the difference between men and women's salary levels currently stands at 34.44 percent.

He said that the highest salaries for women were earned in Madrid, Catalonia and the Basque Country. At a European level said, Aguilo men earn on average 15 percent more than women.
