Son Espases hospital kitchen strike called off

THE kitchen staff strike which was due to start yesterday afternoon at the new University Hospital of Son Espases in Palma was called off at the last minute, the Workers Commission (CCOO) Health Federation has reported.

CCOO sources said that the reprieve was thanks to an agreement reached between Workers Commission representative Manuel Garcia, and Luis Carretero, the hospital's Managing Director. Garcia expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the negotiations, explaining that CCOO had wanted acknowledgement by the hospital that kitchen staff workers hampered by ill health should only be asked to carry out tasks of which they were physically capable.

The CCOO said that the negotiation sets a precedent for other agreements between hospital workers at the recently opened Son Espases hospital and its management.
