REGIONAL President Francesc Antich and Partido Popular (PP) Opposition Leader Jose Ramon Bauza agreed yesterday to work for the mutual benefit of the Balearic Islands but failed to be specific about the areas of government in which they could successfully negotiate.

In a Parliamentary session, Bauza said the Balearic government had a legal obligation to make sure that the public debt didn't exceed 1.3 percent of Gross Domestic Product during its term of office. Bauza said that he would be prepared to discuss ways of ensuring debt limitation with President Antich.

Antich said that if the PP were interested in reaching agreement on issues of importance to the whole of the regional community, they were free to do so through Equality and Territory laws which were currently being considered by Parliament.
