Palma.—The Director General for Traffic (DGT) announced yesterday that for the rest of this week, until midnight Sunday, the Guardia Civil traffic police will be mounting a crackdown on vehicle child security.

Controls are going to be thrown up across the region to not only check that parents have the required security systems fitted to their vehicles, but also to help make sure that drivers know how to use them properly.

The prime objective is to make sure that all children are either wearing a seat belt or are securely fastened into special child retention seats, depending on the age.

The campaign is more of an awareness drive as opposed to catching drivers who infringe the traffic laws.
