THE Moroccan Ambassador to Spain, Omar Omar Azziman, said that the interest shown by Balearic investors in his country was “much less” than expected, given the prospectives.

The Ambassador was received by Balearic leader Jaume Matas, and said that some hoteliers and other tourism enterprises had shown interest.
The Ambassador and Matas also discussed the needs of the Moroccan colony in the Balearics, which is around 20'000 persons (of a total of 600'000 in the whole of Spain).

Azziman commented that the Moroccan government would like to have some form of representatation in the Balearics, even if it were not permanent, so that Moroccan residents did not have to go to the Consulate in Barcelona.

The Ambassador was due to have talks with Encarnación Pastor, the immigration minister, and it is believed that she will offer office space, as she has done with other countries.

Azziman is also due to have talks with Moroccan associations in the Balearics, to discuss their problems and listen to their views.
