PALMA
THE Balearics is still clear of any swine fever cases with no new suspicious cases having been reported over the past 24 hours.
However, the local authorities are leaving nothing to chance as the situation worsens on the mainland and across Europe.
Yesterday, the Balearic Ministry for Health and Consumer Affairs created a special swine fever committee to exclusively monitor the situation at home and abroad and be fully prepared to respond to any confirmed cases, or significant surge of suspected ones, here in the Balearics and immediately inform all of the relevant health departments of exactly how they should proceed.

The Minister for Health, Vicens Thomas, said yesterday that, in response to the decision by the World Health Organisation to upgrade the level of alert to five on a scale of six, “the warnings have to be taken extremely seriously and we've all got to be fully prepared and up to speed on how the spread of the virus is evolving across Spain and Europe.”
