NEWSDESK JUST after midnight yesterday, the emergency services were called to the Marratxi industrial estate where a warehouse had caught fire. A major emergency operation was launched amidst fears that the industrial property could be full of highly flammable and potentially dangerous material.

Numerous units of fire fighters from various stations rushed to the scene with back- up from the Guardia Civil, the Civil Protection Department, the Local Police and 112 emergency centre experts.

Fire fighters battled the blaze for over an hour before it was finally brought under control and extinguished.
Once the smoke had cleared, fire fighters discovered two gutted lorries, an old bus and an assortment of material.
A full investigation has been mounted by the Guardia Civil but, according to sources close to the operation, it appears that the fire began in the main office and then rapidly spread through the warehouse causing extensive damage.
