Hailing a taxi just got easier

FROM next month Palma residents will be able to hail a taxi at night during the weekends from any part of the Paseo Marítimo.
Up until now, it has only been possible to hail a taxi in one of five designated stops along the Paseo. This measure was brought in by the last council following a request for its implementation by the taxi drivers' consultative committee.

The council's Head of Transport, Joaquín Rodríguez, said that taxis would also be permitted to continue using the central median to park during weekend nights.

In February, Rodríguez said that the council was considering the possibility of banning taxi drivers from parking on the median when the new bus service begins operation.

Rodríguez also said that the council's legal advisors had presented a report in which they pointed out that it is not possible to grant new licences for two drivers.

The report said that until there was a change in the law, licences would be awarded under the system that has been in place since 1999.
