A TOTAL of 70 tour operators attended a promotion and “workshop” given in Rome yesterday by representatives of key areas of the Balearic tourist industry..

The conference was hosted by around 30 companies from the Balearic Islands - hotels, hotel associations, the Majorcan Tourist Board and tourism foundations from Ibiza, Minorca and Formentor. The event was attended by Elena Valdes, the director of the Spanish Tourist Office in Rome and the Spanish Ambassador to Italy, Luis Calvo.

The promotion was an opportunity for potential Italian clients to see first hand just what the main tourist products of the Balearic Islands are, including sun, sea and sand; the natural environment; boating; golf; cultural heritage; and business tourism.

Yesterday's presentation was part of the Balearic Tourism Institute's marketing programme for this year. Of the 410'441 Italians who visited the Balearics last year, 244'539 chose to stay on Ibiza and Formentera.
