THE Electoral Committee has received a complaint against the billboard voting campaign started a few days ago by Calvia council.
In the complaint it says that councils are not allowed to carry out campaigns encouraging people to vote, according to article 20.2 of the Balearic Electoral Law. According to the legal text, only the Balearic Government and the Island Councils are allowed to use this means to encourage residents to vote. The complaint also says that this method of encouraging people to vote can only be carried out once the electoral campaign, which starts officially today, has begun. However, the complaint does not confine itself to administrative aspects. The complainant told the Electoral Committee that the colours and formats used in this campaign, are extremely similar to the campaign colours which the party who are at present governing the institution, the Partido Popular, are using. For these reasons the complainant said, I consider this to be an obvious illegality.
